Optimizing Gut Health
The poultry intestinal tract starts from the beak and ends in the cloaca. Gut especially has an important role in poultry health, because 70% of poultry health is based on their gut conditions. So, gut health needs to be considered to maintain the condition and productivity of these poultry.
The gut health of poultry depends on the balance between the host, intestinal microorganisms, intestinal environment conditions, and the content of feed consumed. This balance is also influenced by many factors, including farm management, feed quality, and environmental conditions.
Optimal gut health conditions will affect the perfect digestion of feed and absorption of nutritional components. In another way, if the gut health condition is not optimal, it will cause an imbalance in intestinal conditions, which will be the risk of health problems and poultry productivity. That also can cause malabsorption of nutrients which will cause excessive growth of intestinal bacteria populations.
These are things that can affect the gut health conditions;
- Quality of feed and drinking water
- The presence of fungi and mycotoxin in feed
- Primary immune system disorders in digestion
- Stress
- Balance of intestinal microflora
- Antinutritional factors of feed raw-materials such as phytate acid, beta-mannan, and beta-glucan
Maintaining a good balance of gut health is one aspect of growth with the best FCR. There are many products available to support gut health, with attention to AMR (Anti-microbial Resistance) in poultry.
Optimization of gut health can be done by providing feed additives, including probiotics (Amnil), AGP replacer (VTnest), osmoregulator (Hepatron), and several types of enzymes such as phytase (Microtech), xylanase (Yiduozyme), and mannanase (palmazyme).
Identification of intestinal health conditions cannot be seen through symptoms that appear, it has to be done through the result of laboratory tests, so the results are clear, and the cause of the disorder is identified.
