Biosecurity in Poultry Industry

Biosecurity is an effort to maintain a cage environment to keep it protected from contamination by pathogenic microorganisms from outside. The efforts include screening vehicles traffic and farm workers, cleaning and disinfection consisting of manure expenditure, the cage cleaning process to the fumigation process as one of the chick-in preparations.

During the rainy season, there will be great opportunities for various sources of disease that will threaten animal health in the poultry, ruminant, etc. sectors. Therefore, the implementation of the biosecurity program must be tightened and monitored continuously so that disease contamination from outside can be overcome.

Many references and journals show that inundation from rain is included in the source of pathogenic microbial contamination that can affect the health of chickens, in addition to changes in temperature and humidity (for example: E. coli & S. aureus). In this condition, it is recommended to carry out routine disinfection to maintain environmental cleanliness and minimize pathogenic microbial contamination.

Some disinfection efforts that can be done during the rainy season are: Routine spraying of the area around the cage, spraying farm workers who go in and outside the farm area and washing hands before entering the cage area, sterilization of drinking water, washing cooling pads (for close cages), and washing equipment regularly that is often used in the cage area.

To minimize pathogenic microbial contamination that enters the farm, it is also necessary to observe the products that will be used to meet the implementation of biosecurity. The composition of the product must be ensured to work well in overcoming problems that often occur on the farm. One of the all-in-one products that is very powerful, and also clinically tested is Biodan Plus by Agrinusa.

Biodan Plus is a broad-spectrum disinfectant product with Glutaraldehyde and Benzalkonium Chloride in high content that functions not only to eradicate viruses, bacteria, and fungi through disinfection or spraying of the cage area but also can be used to wash cooling pads, sterilize drinking water, and to wash cage equipment and hatcher eggs. In addition, with the composition contained in the product, the use of Biodan Plus is perfect for use when an outbreak occurs on a farm. With one product it can meet all cleaning needs on the farm, so there is no need to add other products for the disinfection program.

After the cleaning and disinfection program is implemented, the next step that can be continued is fumigation to complete the biosecurity programs.
